Apart from writing books, I have been known to pen the odd piece for sports websites. I write mainly about cricket now but have written about ice hockey, football (association) and baseball in the past. This page has links to sites that have my work upon them.
With over 4.4 million Facebook likes, Sportskeeda is a popular multi-sport website based in India. Founded in 2009, the site has grown quickly and covers ‘football, cricket, tennis, basketball, hockey, Formula One, badminton, professional wrestling, mixed martial arts and boxing’ according to Wikipedia. My focus is on cricket.
Australia’s leading sports opinion site where fans and experts give their opinions. Almost two million visitors each month visit The Roar to read, and comment, on an average of 600 articles.
the DAILY OBSERVER
One of the largest daily broadsheet newspapers in Bangladesh. Has a daily circulation of 38,750. Founded in February 2011, The Daily Observer prides itself in its strong, independent editorial policy. My focus was to write about the Bangladesh Premier League T20 competition.
LAST WORD ON CRICKET
Part of the ‘Last Word on Sports, Inc’ stable, Last Word on Cricket covers international and domestic cricket. Several writers on the site have achieved media accreditation from England Cricket and New Zealand Cricket.
FanSided’s branch into (association) football has included setting up sites specific to individual teams. Claret Villans is the site that covers news and opinions about Aston Villa. As a long serving (suffering?) supporter of Aston Villa, it was an honour to serve as a Site Expert. This entailed writing pieces, editing submitted work, recruiting new writers and managing the social media presence.
playing for 90
Another FanSided site, Playing for 90 had a broader remit for covering the world of football. My remit was to write about Premier League stories.
Two stints with Pens Labyrinth saw me write about Pittsburgh’s ice hockey team. Another labour of love, Pittsburgh Penguins have played a part in my social life for a long time. Having co-founded the British fan club and started the Australian chapter, writing about the ‘Burgh was another honour.
ultimate a league
Part of the process of moving 10,000 miles was to find out about sport in Australia. Ultimate A League were kind enough to put some of my work on their excellent website. I am particularly proud of the Western Sydney Wanderers piece. More importantly, their fans liked it too.
outside of the boot
Didn’t last long - creative differences - but worth included nonetheless.
uk american sports fans
Now in hiatus but UK American Sports Fans gave me my first opportunity to write. This link is to a series of articles I wrote about the 2012 Major League Baseball season called ‘A Whole New Ball Game’. It includes an interview with Greg Proops, one of my comedy heroes, talking about the San Francisco Giants. My first article was about Jaromir Jagr. For completeness, it can be accessed here.
